Abstract

The fibres used for making a tampon have a predetermined proportion of fibres which remain resilient when wetted. Preferably these are of non-absorbant synthetic fibre such as nylon and may form between 3 and 20 per cent by weight of the total fibre mass but if they are absorbent the percentage may be up to 60 per cent. The resilience of these fibres, in use, aids expansion of the tampon and permits the use, for the remainder, of comparatively short fibres, such as cotton, of less than 3/16 inch, which would otherwise tend to become matted together when wet.
