Class 81(2) In order to provide a tampon with an entrant end in which the compression of the fibres is relatively small the blank 12 used is shaped as a parallelogram and is folded over about its midpoint 16 so that the lower edges 13, 14 cross each other and when the blank is compressed to a cylindrical form with a rounded, entrant end, the volume of material in the tip is much reduced and the degree of compression is relatively slight. The absorptive capacity of the tip is thus increased and such a procedure is particularly applicable to tampons having a soluble cap over the tip.
