Abstract
630,105. Catamenial tampons. RABELL, M. E. Aug. 2, 1947, No. 21142. Convention date; June 2, 1942. [Class 81(ii)] A tampon consists of one or more pieces of soft absorbent material which have corners and which are pursed up about the centre and are in a compressed state, with the corners forming a substantially conical, somewhat compressed apex of the tampon. The tampon is formed from one or more pieces 21, 22, of sheet material, with or without gauge inserts 24, by pursing up and folding together the material which surrounds the central portion. The folds 43 of the pursed material are disposed along lines extending longitudinally of the pursed portion. The material is then compressed laterally, resulting in a semi-compressed body, substantially conical in shape, of which the base end 44 is softer and less compressed and the apex 45 more firmly compressed.
