778,801. Grinding. LANG PNEUMATIC, Ltd. (Eaton, J.). March 29, 1954 [March 28, 1953], No. 8623/53. Class 60 [Also in Groups XXII and XXXIV] A grinding machine has a work-receiving table 2, Fig. 2, supported on and movable relatively to a bed 5, there being one or more recesses 6 formed between the abutting surfaces of the table and bed inwardly of the external periphery of the table to which recess or recesses compressed air is adapted to be supplied through a pipe 10. As shown, the table is rotatable continuously or for adjustment, and in another arrangement, the table is linearly movable. The air pressure is adjusted to cause the table and work supported thereon to float with a slight clearance relatively to the bed, such that 'the air-pressure is reduced substantially to atmospheric pressure at the table edges. The table may be locked to the bed by connecting the recess or recesses to a source of vacuum.
