Abstract

778,092. Chucks. SUHNER, W. June 10, 1955 [June 18, 1954], No. 16725/55. Class 83 (3). The collect chuck-spindle 3 in a hand-tool is locked during operation of the collet-nut 6, by rolling-members 9, e.g. balls or rolls, lodged in longitudinal grooves 12 in the tool-casing 1 and supported in slots 7 in a sleeve 8 which may be displaced against the action of a spring 11 to engage the members 9 in grooves 14 in a collar 15 on the spindle. The balls 9 are retained in position by a ring 10, and flats are provided on the nut for engagement by a spanner, which may also be used to displace the sleeve 8. The number of grooves 14 may be a multiple of the number of balls 9.
