Abstract

777,968. Ladders. FOUGEROLLES, A. M. R. E. R. DE. Oct. 4, 1954 [Oct. 5, 1953], No. 28483/54. Class 20(2) The uprights 1 of a metal ladder are constituted by channel sections which are flexible and lack innate rigidity and metal rungs 12 are welded on to the edges of the longitudinal slots' formed by the facing edges of the channels. In the embodiments described the rungs extend through the slots and are secured at their ends to the inner faces of the channel. In Fig. 3 the ends of the rungs are welded to a rib 35 on the inner face of the channel; in Fig. 6 the ends of the rungs 12 are secured in sockets 30 riveted or welded to the inner face of the channel; in Fig. 7 a socket 32 pressed or punched into the channel engages the end of the rung. The end of the rungs may be flattened as shown at 42 in Fig. 12. The uprights may be lightened by forming spaced perforations in their outer sides. According to Fig. 15, additional bracing for the ladder may be provided which comprises tension cables 55, 56 supported by arms 53, 54.
