Abstract

The dye-affinity and resistance to degradation in air or oxygen of polyesters obtainable from terephthalic acid and glycols of formula HO(CH2)nOH (where n = 2-10) are improved by melt-blending them with a polyester obtainable from tere- or iso-phthalic acid and a glycol of formula HO.CH2.CH2.(O.CH2.CH2)nOH (where n = 1-5) and treating the mixture with a solution or dispersion of an N-aryl arylamine. In examples, polyethylene terephthalate is melt blended with polydiethylen glycol iso- or tere-phthalate and the melt extruded into fibres which are treated at 100 DEG C. with an aqueous dispersion of N-N1-di-beta-naphthyl-p-phenylene diamine.ALSO:The dye-affinity and resistance to degradation in air or oxygen of polyesters obtainable from terephthalic acid and glycols of the formula HO (CH2)n OH where n is 2-10, are improved by melt-blending the polyesters with a polyester obtainable from tere- or isophthalic acid and a glycol of the formula HO. CH2. CH2. (O. CH2. CH2)n OH, where n is 1-5, and treating the mixture with a solution or dispersion of an N - aryl arylamine. The dispersion may contain a small quantity of a dispersing agent, e.g. sodium oleyl sulphate. In examples, polyethylene terephthalate is melt-blended with polyethylene glycol iso- or terephthalate and the melt is extruded into fibres which are treated at 100 DEG C. with an aqueous dispersion of N - N1 - di - beta - naphthyl - p - phenylene diamine.
