In a pivoted-pad thrust bearing, each pad B is arranged to rock about an axis D inclined at an angle a which may be between 5 and 45 degrees, to a radius line E passing through the centre of the bearing. The bearing surface area of the pad between the line D and the forward edge of the pad is greater than the area between the line D and the trailing edge of the pad.
