Abstract

795,647. Connecting-rod bearings. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd. Jan. 4, 1957, No. 488/57. Addition to 744,287. Class 12 (1). In a modification of the connecting-rod bigend bearing described in the parent Specification, areas 14, 17 of the bearing surface approximately opposite to the recesses 4, 6 are recessed or relieved so as to permit escape of oil therefrom and thus prevent the building up of substantial oil pressure tending to reduce the clearance and hence the thickness of the oil film formed in the oil recesses 4, 6 and carried forward into the heavily-loaded region. The recesses 14, 17 are formed on each side of the slots 9, 10, respectively, each extending through an angle, at the bearing axis, of between 10 and 40 degrees and decreasing progressively from a depth of about 0.005 inches at the joint face 15 to the opposite end 16 of the recess. Each pair of recesses may be interconnected by another recess.
