1360629 Mounting on shafts NADELLA and A PITNER 4 Aug 1971 [5 Aug 1970] 36566/71 Heading F2U [Also in Division B3] A part (e.g. a Hooke's joint fork) produced by folding and rolling a sheet metal blank comprises a collar 2 with a split 3 between double thickness ears 4 formed by folding the ends 7 of the blank inwards, each ear having a hole 11 for an element (e.g. a screw) to clamp the part on a shaft, whose defining cylinder intersects the inner profile 12 of the collar, each end of the blank having a rebate 14a, 114 so that the walls of the holes 11 are clear of the profile 12. Burrs 16 formed when drilling the hole 16 are then clear of the profile. The ends of the blank may first be bent, Fig. 2 (not shown), before forming the recesses 14a, 114 so that the end surfaces 13a, 113a may be inclined as shown. These surfaces may be concave and cold forged.
