Abstract

776,354. Winding yarn. MUSCHAMP ENGINEERS, Ltd. May 9, 1955 [May 7, 1954], No. 13330/54. Class 120 (2). The traverse carriage 14 of a pirn winding machine is supported by and moves along rods 10, 11 and is provided with a spring - biased yarn traverse guide 42 oscillated, selectively, by a follower 44 from one of several faces of a face-cam 16. Also supported by the carriage 14 is a slidable and rotatable spring-urged spindle 20 carrying a feeler disc 21 rotated by contact with the growing pirn 46. In turning, the spindle 20 rotates a worm 24 meshing with the outside portion of a nut 32, the inside portion of which engages a mutilated screwed rod 12. Pivoted to the carriage 14 is a spring-biased arm 36 having a follower 37 which engages the cam 16 at a point displaced 180 degrees from the follower 44. The arrangement is such that upon the feeler 21 contacting the pirn 46 only the nut 32, which is slidably carried by the carriage 14, is rotated along the screwed rod 12, the carriage being advanced by the follower 37 under pressure from the traverse cam 16, acting through the arm 36 and a stud 35 thereon. The form of the pirn is controlled by an adjustable head carried on an arm 25 which contacts forming plates 28, 29.
