943,134. Coiling. STORENUND MASCHINENFABRIK EMIL SCHENTER A.G. Sept. 27, 1961 [Sept. 28, 1960], No. 34710/61. Heading B3E. A spring coiling machine of the type having at least one coiling tool and a holder therefor mounted on a slide which is operatively connected with an adjusting mechanism is characterised in that means is disposed between said slide and its adjusting mechanism permitting the exchange of the coiling tool and the subsequent return of their replacements to the exact initial positions of adjustment. Wire fed against a coiling finger 12 is deflected thereby to form a coil the pitch of which may be determined by a member 14. The coiled spring is severed from the wire supply by a cutter 16. The coiling finger 12 is mounted in a tool holder 51, Fig. 2, located in a slide 11 by an abutment 52 and locked to the slide by a clamping lever 53. The slide 11 is coupled by a lever 26, pivoted thereto at 62, to a plate 23 rockable about a pivot 20 by an adjusting lever 29 set by a screw 32. If a spring of varying diameter is to be wound a cam 38 rocks a lever 35 to rock the lever 29, through a roller 59 adjustable therealong. The pitch member 14 and cutter 16 are similarly adjusted and moved. To allow the slide 11 to be retracted for removal of the coiling tool 12 without moving the plate 23, the coupling lever 26 is journalled at one end on an eccentric, mounted in the plate 23. The eccentric is rotated 180 degrees by a handle 41 from a position in which the handle bears on an abutment 65 on the plate 23 to a position where it bears on an abutment 66. This movement rocks the lever 26 about a fulcrum formed by the end of a screw 63 and retracts the slide 11. The pitch member 14 and cutter 16 are similarly retracted. Wear of the tool 12 may be compensated for by adjusting the screw 63 or by displacing the pivot 62 of the lever 26 to the slide 11 by an eccentric 67. In a modification, Fig. 3, a coiling tool 70 in a slide 76 and a coiling tool 71 on a slide 77 are simultaneously adjusted by rocking a plate 84 having a coupling lever 87, a roller 89 on the end of which bearing on an extension 81 of the slide 76. A crank arm 78 moved by the extension 81 adjusts the slide 77. The lever 87 is journalled on an eccentric mounted in the plate 84 and rocked by a handle 86 to rock the lever 87 about a fulcrum formed by the end of a screw 88 to retract the roller 89 from the extension 81 to allow the slides 76, 77 to be retracted.
