Class 130 To limit or prevent tobacco smoke ingestion, part or all of each inhalation through a holder 1 or pipe is drawn from a deformable pocket 7 communicating with the suction duct 5a and located within a cavity 1a, communicating with the space receiving the cigarette, cigar or tobacco, and capable of communication with the duct 5a. As shown in Figs. 6 and 7, relative rotation of the holder 1 and mouthpiece 5 may align a channel 10 with different parts of a tapered 'channel 12 leading by a bore 9c to the duct 5a so as to pass a variable quantity of smoke thereto. Alternatively the channel 10 may successively align with separate bores 9 c of differing cross-section and inclined towards the mouth end of the holder. In Fig. 2 axial bores 9, 9b of differing cross-section align successively with an offset portion of the suction duct 5a. Coacting external marks on the members 1, 5 may indicate different relative rotary settings thereof. A valve-controlled passage between the suction duct and cavity may be used; or relative longitudinal or helical movement of the members 1, 5 may control the amount of smoke passed.
