A display device, composed of closely spaced strips of one picture a separated by strips of at least one other picture b, c, and a screen 12 composed of opaque strips separated by transparent strips the screen being positioned in front of the composite picture a, b, c so as to mask all but the strips of the picture a when the device is viewed from the position A and all but the strips of each other picture b, c when the device is viewed from position Band C, is produced by exposing a sensitive plate through a screen such as 12 to the light image of a first photographic negative and then moving either the screen, the sensitive plate or the position of projection of image so that the image of a second negative falls on a part of the sensitive plate not previously exposed. The pictures a, b, c may be different or may be such as to give an animated effect as the observer moves from position A to position C. The pictures may be provided on one side and the screen 12 on the other side of a sheet of glass 11. The device is preferably illuminated from behind.
