Class 98(2) The production of a composite picture includes the steps of photographing a foreground and a plain backing on a single multi-layer colour film and developing said film to a negative; the foreground and backing being independently illuminated so that of the photographically effective rays reaching the colour film those from the foreground include substantially no rays of the same wavelength as those from the backing. The process is preferably carried out by exposing a colour film in a camera to a yellow-lit foreground in front of a blue tint plain backing and developing the film to give a colour negative A.. This negative is printed, if desired through through a blue filter, on high contrast bluesensitive orthochromatic film to give a film B having the foreground silhoueted on a clear background. A second print (film C) is also made from film A, through a yellow filter, on panchromatic film to give a black- and-white foreground image on an opaque background. Finally, negative stack is exposed under film B together with a positive film of the desired background scene and, before development, is re-exposed under film C alone so as to yield on development a negative foreground image on a negative image of the desired background. By the process several foreground scenes may be married to any desired background.
