Abstract
775,520. Paper internally bonded with resinous or rubbery copolymers. PERMACEL TAPE CORPORATION. June 10, 1955 [June 11, 1954], No. 16841/55. Class 96. Paper &c., e.g. made from kraft or rope fibres or glass filaments &c., internally bonded by an unsaturated polymer or copolymer which is soluble in a volatile organic solvent &c. of surface tension greater than 30 degrees per cm., has such solvent &c. added to the pulp or paper, and removed by evaporation. The volatile compound may be heterocyclic with nitrogen or oxygen in the ring structure, an N-dialkyl substituted amide or an aliphatic diamine, e.g. pyridine, morpholine, pyrrole, hydrazine, dimethyl formamide, ethylene carbonate, nitrobenzene, pyrrolidine, lutidine, nitromethane, or ethylene- or propylene-diamine. The copolymer &c. may be butadiene-acrylonitrile and phenolformaldehyde latex with hydroquinone monobenzyl ether as antioxidant and potassium resinate as latex stabilizer; or butadienestyrene, polyisobutylene, or polyvinylbutyral. The process may be used for pressure-sensitive tape backings, or creped paper masking tape &c. Specifications 723,901 and 775,331 are referred to.
