Abstract
775,205. Variable capacitors. SVENSKA AKTIEBOLAGET GASACCUMULATOR. Dec. 2, 1954, No. 34941/54. Class 37. A variable capacitor, Fig. 3, comprises a stator consisting of a plurality of vanes 25 mounted upon a fixed shaft 26 and a rotor consisting of a housing 28 which is supported by ball-races 32, 33 within a fixed casing 36 and which is provided internally with vanes 27 cooperating with the stator vanes 25. A flexible ring 37 bolted to the casing 36 provides axial spring-loading whereby the axial position of the rotor with respect to the stator is maintained. Adjustable screws 39, 41 permit trimming adjustments to be made to the law of variation of the capacitor. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the rotor 12 is supported by - bearings 13 one of which may be driven by a knob 15 to cause rotation of the rotor. The stator in Fig. 1 is of semi-circular form; Fig. 2 (not shown) depicts a capacitor wherein the stator is of quadrantal form. The housing 28 shown in Fig. 3 comprises either a casting or is machined from a solid block; Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates a modified form of housing formed as a sheet-metal pressing suitably ribbed to provide shoulders for supporting the ball races 32, 33 and for carrying the rotor plates 27.
