Abstract

775,104. Respiratory appliances. BARTLETT, W. July 25, 1955 [April 28, 1954], No. 12266/54. Class 81(2) A breathing tube assembly, for use by swimmers, is so constructed as to prevent the surface of the water from reaching the valve seating, so as to avoid the possibility. of oil interfering with the correct functioning of the valve. The open end of the breathing pipe 11 is directed vertically downwards and provides a seating 20 for a valve plug 18 on a slidable stem 15, which also carries a float 19 to cause the valve to close when it is submerged. The valve is enclosed in a body made from a cup-shaped member 12 and an open cage 13 so that air is trapped in the upper part of the cup 12, when the device is submerged, and water cannot reach the plug 18 and seating 20. The float shown may be replaced by a ball against which the rod 15 bears.
