774,601. Abrasive blasting. BROOM & WADE, Ltd., ELWESS, E., and GITTINS, H. B. Nov. 3,1955 [Nov. 5, 1954]: No. 32119/54. Class 60 Apparatus for cleaning sparking plugs and the like comprises a pressed metal cylindrical casing 13 fitting into a circular recess. 12 in the upper surface of a cast hollow base 11 and held to the base by two studs 14. A screwed recess 15 receives the base 16 of a sand jet supporting a sand tube 17 provided with a nozzle 18 and apertures 19 to permit the entry of sand from the casing. An air tube 20 within the sand tube 17 communicates with a hollow space in the recess 15 connected by a passage 21 to a normally closed push button valve 35 controlling the admission of compressed air from supply pipe 23. A similar valve. 33 controls the admission of compressed air from supply pipe 23 to a passage 29 and air jet 26 for blowing away any sand adhering, to the plug. A central opening in the top of the casing, 13 receives a rubber plug 36 to hold a sparking plug; the rubber plug is retained by a metal capsule 38 having flanges 39, 40 with key-hole, slots 41, 42 engageable with the heads of retaining studs 43, 44 riveted to the casing top. An upstanding stud 45 on the capsule 38 acts as a hinge for a swinging shutter 46 urged by a spring 47 around the stud to close the hole in the rubber plug when the sparking plug is removed. Air escapes from the casing 13 through felt tubes 50 and exhaust openings 48 in the base 11. Specification 541,312 is referred to.
