Abstract
773,690. Tubeless tyre wheel rims. GOODRICH CO., B. F. Dec. 30, 1954 [Jan. 12, 1954], No. 37644/54. Class 144 (2). To render airtight a divisible rim comprising a detachable bead seating and retaining flange 17 normally retained on the rim base 15 by a split locking ring 25 engaged in a rim base gutter 22, a rubber-like annular sealing ring 26 of U- section is disposed between the rim base 15 and detachable flange 17 with its limbs 27, 28 extending axially inwardly so that the inflation pressure of a tubeless tyre on the rim will press them into sealing engagement with the adjacent surfaces of the flange 17 and rim base 15 respectively. As shown, the sealing member limbs are circumferentially ribbed on their outer surfaces and are moulded to have a normal relative angular set as in Fig. 4. The limbs may be reinforced by spring metal bands 32 which have transverse slits for flexibility. Alternatively the limbs may be fabric reinforced. Specification 763,553 is referred to.
