Abstract

738,112. Wheel tyres. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. Aug. 14, 1953, No. 22509/53. Class 144 (2). A hollow cushion tyre 10, for a farm implement wheel such as a gauge wheel, and comprising a base 14 and a crown portion 11, is provided on the inside of the base 14 with continuous circumferential ribs 15, 16 to limit deflection of the tyre under load, Fig. 4, and on the exterior of the base 14 with a series of transverse grooves 18 to engage complementary transverse ribs 18a on a wheel rim 17 and thereby prevent tyre slip. As shown the tyre 10 is of oblate section and the ribs 15, 16 extend radially between 15 and 30 per cent of the overall cross-sectional height of the tyre to project beyond the rim flanges 5, 6 which support the tyre side walls.
