Abstract

785,094. Tubeless tyres. PIRELLI SOC. PER AZIONI. Oct. 20, 1955 [Feb. 7, 1955], No. 30001/55. Class 144 (2). The beads 1 of a tubeless tyre each effect an air-tight seal with the bead-retaining flanges 3 of an associated wheel rim by means of a single circumferential resilient rubber rib 2 which is moulded on the bead and tapers axially outwardly thereof. The rib 2 may have a crosssection of triangular or trapezoidal form, the radial depth B of the base of which may range from H to H/8 where H is the radial depth of the rim flange 3. The axial length L of the rib may range up to a maximum of B. The rubber of the rib may have an elastic modulus ranging from that of tread rubber, for small values of B, to that of sponge rubber, the latter being used for maximum or near maximum values of B. The tyre may be moulded with radial grooves 5, Fig. 3, extending into the bead zone to facilitate moulding.
