A belt buckle is provided with a guide plate or part adapted to guide the free end of a belt, after the latter has been fastened, behind the opposite or fixed end of the belt. In one example a prong 1, Figs. 1 and 4, is hinged on an end bar 2 of an arched rectangular buckle frame 3, and a plate 5 with integral sleeve parts 4 hinged upon the buckle bar 2 at opposite sides of the prong hinge is formed with a slot 7 parallel with the bar 2 and has forwardly bent side lugs 6 at the ends of the slot. The outer portion 9 of the plate 5 is shaped to form a longitudinal edge 8 for the slot 7 and provide an outer forwardly directed toothed flange 10 with an outwardly directed trunnion 11 on each end. A clamping-plate 12 with an apertured lug 15 at each end is pivoted on the trunnions 11 so that it can be 'swung into the position shown in Fig. 4, whereby the fixed end of the belt is clamped against the toothed flange 10 in the usual manner. The free end 8 of the belt is brought beneath the sleeve hinges 4 and up through the slot 7, the portion of the plate 5 between the slot and the hinge portions 4 being shaped to provide a guide 17 with an edge 16. Fig. 6 shows a modification wherein a guide plate 20 formed with sleeve portions which are hinged upon the prong-carrying bar 2 of a buckle frame 3 is provided also with forwardly bent apertured lugs 24 within which the interned extremities of a U-shaped wire frame 26 are hinged. The non-adjustable end 13 of a belt 14 is secured to the middle bar 27 of the U-frame and the free end 8 of the belt, after fastening by the prong 1, is passed between the guide plate 20 and the secured non-adjustable end 13 on the bar 27.
