Abstract
773,036. Rotary motor plant. NSU WERKE AKT.-GES., and WANKEL, F. Sept. 16, 1955 [Sept. 17, 1954], No. 26596/55. Class 110 (2). A rotary engine plant comprises a rotary pump unit which supplies cooling air to a rotary internal-combustion engine unit and a rotary hot-air engine unit which is driven by the heated cooling air. The three units are each of the n and n+1 lobes type having an inner and an outer rotor, the three outer rotors being connected together to form a common outer rotor. In Fig. 1 the three inner rotors are also connected together and are geared to the outer rotor by gearing 15, combustion air entering the I.C. engine unit 6 through a passage 8 in a shaft 7 and is exhausted through port 9. Cooling air is drawn into the pump unit 4 through a port 10 and passes through cooling passages 12 around the I.C. engine unit, the heated air then entering the hot-air engine unit through ports 13 and being exhausted through a port 14. The heated cooling air may pass round the exhaust pipe of the I.C. engine unit for further heating before entering the hot-air engine unit. In a modification the hot-air engine unit is placed between the other two units and the inner rotors are independent and rotate at different speeds.
