Abstract
773,032. Electromagnets. FOXBORO CO. Sept. 13, 1955 [Sept. 16, 1954], No. 26239/55. Class 35. A polarized rotatable electromagnet consists of a vane 20 which is attracted to one or other of poles 40, 46 depending on the sense of the D.C. bias applied to coils 38 around cores 36, 42. The polarizing flux is provided by permanent magnets 28, 30 and passes from a common yoke plate 60, across an annular gap 52 to a hub 22 on the spindle 18, through the vane 20 to slotted pole shoes 40, 46 which embrace the vane, through cores 36, 42 carrying biasing coils 38 to the common yoke plate 48 at the other end of the magnets. The signal applied to the biasing coils serves to divert the flux, which is normally equally divided between the two poles, so that one is strengthened and the other weakened, and the vane is moved accordingly. The spindle 18 carries vanes 24 of a variable condenser 26 for use in a selfbalancing measuring system, the connection being made by flexible lead 54. The vane is earthed by a lead 60.
