978,549. Magnetic sound recording head. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT m.b.H. Aug. 19,1963 [Aug. 17,1962], No. 32644/63: Heading G5R. The bias windings 7, 8 on the core members 2,1 of a recording head are so proportioned and arranged that substantially all the effect of the winding 8 at the trailing edge of the gap 3 is neutralised by the effect of the winding 7. Adjustment may be made by a movable member 11, shunting a non-operative gap 4. The signal windings are oppositely arranged to concentrate the signal field at the trailing gap. In Fig. 3,12 represents the bias and 13 the signal fields at the recording gap 3. In alternative embodiments, not described in detail, the windings may be equal and tapped, and external circuitry of a resistive or reactive nature may be appropriately connected to such tappings.
