Abstract
903,437. Automatic train control. BRITISH TRANSPORT COMMISSION. Oct. 6, 1958 [July 4, 1957], No. 21228/57. Addition to 818,751. Class 105. Train apparatus which co-operates with track magnets to effect train control by brake application or cab signals comprises a Hall voltage generator cemented between polepieces and supplied from an A.C. source at 3000 c/s., a magnetic bias coil wound on the polepieces and a transistor amplifier and rectifier arrangement which receives an input from the Hall generator and supplies a D.C. output to the bias coil. The arrangement is self-sustaining and also provides an output to an E.P. coil which holds off the train brakes. On passing over a first magnet at a signal location which is polarized to produce a flux across the generator which opposes the bias flux, the generator output rises, then falls to a zero value. If a second track magnet, which is polarized to produce a flux across the generator in the same direction as the bias coil, is not energized (danger or caution signal) the output of the generator remains at zero and after a delay determined by a condenser across the E.P. coil the brakes are applied. If the magnet is energized (clear signal) the self-sustaining operation is restored and the brake application is withheld.
