Abstract

<PICT:0772376/III/1> <PICT:0772376/III/2> A process for continuously injecting a liquid into sheet material comprises passing the sheet material between two rotating cylinders at least one of the cylinders being coated with resilient material which is provided with a plurality of recesses which are continually filled with the liquid each of the recesses tightly contacting the sheet material, the liquid being injected from the recesses into the sheet under a compression exerted by the second cylinder. As shown in Fig. 1 the sheet material which may comprise sheets of paper, cardboard, plywood or wood fibre panels is passed over a support 5 between coating roller 1 and pressure roller 2 mounted on a frame 3. The coating roller 1 which rotates in a trough of coating liquid has a resilient surface with recesses. The pressure of roller 2 is adjustable by any suitable means such as a screw. The coated sheets are then passed between a pair of heated rollers 13, 14 and over rollers 15. Both rollers 1, 2 may have resilient surfaces with recesses to inject both sides of the sheet material. The recesses may have the shape shown at 9, Fig. 2, or they may be circular or comprise slits or grooves with partitions.
