Abstract
771,487. Discharge apparatus. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., BOOTH, A. J., and Isaacs, G. G. June 13, 1955 [June 11, 1954], No. 17319/54. Class 39(1). A gas reservoir includes a compact body 1 of a substance which evolves the gas on heating and re-absorbs it on cooling, the body being encircled by a resistance heater 3 in good thermal contact. The Figure shows an arrangement suitable for hydrogen-filled discharge tubes. The body 1 consists of four pellets of compressed titanium hydride powder wrapped in molybdenum foil 2, with an insulated wire heater 3 wound outside. Molybdenum springs 8 space the assembly from an outer container formed of two nickel cups 5, 6. One end of the heater wire passes loosely through an insulator 9 leaving sufficient free passage for gas to pass out or in.
