Abstract

771,332. Gas filters. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Dec. 16, 1955 [Dec. 17, 1954], No. 36574/54. Class 8(2) A gas filter comprises a stack of plates 1, Fig. 4, each having a pluarity of parallel slots 2, Fig. 1, and being wrapped with fleecy material 3 transversely of the slots 2 so as to leave uncovered end portions 2' thereof which provide gas passages to the space bounded by the slot edges and the fleece on both sides of the plate, and the so wrapped plates are stacked in a closed cylindrical casing 8 having an inlet 17 and an outlet 18 in such a manner that whilst the slots of all plates are parallel the free ends of the slots of alternate plates are in register at the inlet and outlet sides of the casing 8. Stacking is effected on screwed rods 15 having nuts 16 by which groups of plates may be compressed. Fleece is prevented from being pressed into the slots by wire mesh 5 and the longitudinal edges of the wrapped plates sealingly engage flat vertical plates 7 within the casing 8.
