Abstract

955,934. Turbidometers. UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION. June 1, 1962 [July 19, 1961], No. 21154/62. Heading G1X. In a cascade impactor, gas entering between members 16, 18 passes through a series of nozzles 01, 02, 03, 04 alternately on opposite sides of the impactor and of progressively smaller size so that slides 73, 73<SP>1</SP> opposite the nozzles receive deposits of successively smaller particle size, the nozzles being formed between members 16-26 which extend the full width of the impactor and are held together by upper and lower plates. The gas finally passes through a filter 78, receiving residual solid matter, to the inlet of a pump (not shown). The slides 73, 73<SP>1</SP> are held between arms 54, 56, 58, 62, pivotally secured to an upper slide plate which may be moved in the direction of arrow C after each sample has been taken so that a series of deposits may be obtained on each of the slides 73, 73<SP>1</SP>, the position of the slides being determined by a pawl engaging a series of teeth on the edge of a slot in the slide plate. To remove slides 73, 73<SP>1</SP>, arms 54, 56, 58, 62 are pivoted upwardly.
