Abstract
771,279. Sighting-levels. CONSTANTINESCO, I. July 22, 1955, No. 21330/55. Class 97(2) In a sighting level consisting of a pendulum and a sighting tube suspended for relative angular movement in a frame, the tube and a pointer attached thereto are pivoted about their centre of gravity, a linear scale is carried by or connected to the pendulum, and screw actuated means is provided for adjusting the pointer with respect to the scale. As shown, the sighting tube 2 carries a triangular pointer 3, and is pivoted in a frame 5 about an axis passing through the centre of gravity of the tube and pointer by means of a spindle 8. A pendulum 4 is pivoted about spindle 8 and carries a scale 26 co-operating with pointer 3. The pointer 3 and pendulum 4 may be clamped by a wingnut 20 on a bolt 17 passing through the pendulum and through an arcuate slot 19 in pointer 3. The head 30 of bolt 17 is screw-threaded to receive a screw 22 rotatably connected to a lug on-pointer 3, whereby pendulum 4 and pointer 3 can be relatively 'adjusted. To set the tube level, or at a desired angle, pointer 3 is adjusted to the required reading on scale 26, and the parts are clamped by wing-nut 20. The instrument is mounted upright on a staff by a socket 7, and a sighting is made. In a modification, an enlarged scale is fixed to the pendulum and extends beyond it. In other modifications, the sighting tube and pointer are pivoted to the lower end of the pendulum.
