Abstract

622,227. Weighing apparatus. GREEN, S. R. May 27, 1946, No. 15973. [Class 143] A precision balance employing an optical system for projecting the finer increments of weight onto a screen, has the screen located at the base of the balance case and an index line is traversible across the screen by a vernier indicator beneath the base. The screen 8 forms a sloping front to a housing 6 mounted on the base 1 of the balance, and an image of a graticule 4 is projected onto it by a lens 10 and mirrors 11, 14 in conjunction with an upper mirror 13 supported by the beam column 2. An index line 15 is mounted in a frame 16 traversible along a rod 17 by means of a rack 19 and pinion 20 fast with a manually rotatable dial 23. This dial is graduated in tenths of the graduations of the graticule so that, by bringing the index 15 back to the nearest projected graduation, tenths can be read off the dial against an indicating arm 24.
