861,357. Magnetic tests. ASKANIA-WERKE A.G. Aug. 25, 1958 [Aug. 23, 1957], No. 27214/58. Class 37. A magnetometer of the type comprising a magnet system mounted between torsion elements is provided with a scale for measuring the torque applied to the torsion head and a further scale for calibrating the instrument which indi- cates when the magnet has rotated through two precisely known angles. As shown, the magnet 1, the upper face of which is silvered, is mounted by threads 2, 21 in a " U "-shaped bracket 3. The bracket is rotatable by a worm mechanism 7. 8 and its angular position is indicated by the projection of a scale 6 attached to it on a fixed scale 32 at the top of the instrument. At the same time light reflected from the magnet is imaged on to a further scale 34 carrying two pairs of accurately positioned marks 37, 38 and a central pair 35 which serve to indicate when the magnet is level. The instrument is provided with coarse and fine levelling adjustments.
