20,560. Crawley, H. Sept. 11. Sight-testing apparatus. -Relates to face gauges for fitting spectacles &c. Each of the lenses 3, 4 slides in grooves in the frame 1 and has on it two scaies 6, 7 at rightangles. Pointers 8 mounted on screws 9 can be moved over the scales 6 to the centres of the pupils, so that the distance of each pupil from the bridge can be observed. The nose-member 13 can be adjusted vertically by the milled head 18 and horizontally b y the milled head 17; when it is adjusted vertically, the correct vertical position of the pupil may be read-off on the scale 7. Each side arm has at its extremity a nut member 21 which can be moved along the screw 22 by the milled head 24. The arms can be rotated about vertical pivots 26 and also about horizontal pivots 27, and they can be clamped in any required position in the vertical plane by means of a screw 30 which passes through a slot in the segment 28. Each side arm is made in two parts 32, 33, one carrying a rack and the other a pinion 36 ; the part 33 is also graduated. The graduated earmembers 38 are bent round approximately at right-angles to the arms. A graduated segment 19 is provided having a pointer 20 moving over it ; this pointer can be set parallel to the nose to measure its inclination.
