Class 61 A device for gripping a screw cap or other object for the purpose of preventing rotation comprises a sheet metal plate 14, having downwardly projecting flanges 12, 13 and a longitudinal slot 18 in which is guided a pin 21 carrying a toothed eccentric member 20 having a handle lever 24. The slot has ratchet teeth 19. along one edge for engagement by a pawl 25 pivoted on the pin 21. The pawl 25 is loosely mounted on the pin 21 being frictionally held for rotation with the cam until restricted by the edges of the slot.
