Abstract

770,998. Automatic control systems for electrolytic grinders. NORTON GRINDING WHEEL CO., Ltd. Feb. 24, 1954 [March 16, 1953], No. 5414/54. Class 38 (4). The invention relates to automatic load current limiting in an electrolytic grinder. The circuit of the work W and a conducting ring CR1 on the grinding wheel is supplied from a bridge rectifier RB energized over a transformer TR from the voltage drip across series saturable inductor windings L1, L2. These windings are connected in series with a capacitor C across an A.C. source 73, and a D.C. control winding 78 for the inductor carries the load current. The inductor is so constructed that over the desired operating range its reactance is inversely proportional to the load or control current, whereby the load voltage is maintained substantially constant with changes in load current unless a desired limiting value is approached, in which case a resulting tendency for the load voltage to decrease results in the limitation of load current below the desired value. A theoretical analysis of the circuit is given in support of this limiting action.
