Abstract

The invention comprises 2-thiazole-carboxylic acid hydrazide of the formula <FORM:0769482/IV(b)/1> This compound is obtained by reacting 2-thiazole-carboxylic acid or a functional derivative thereof, such as an alkyl ester, chloride or the amide, with hydrazine. Alternatively a 2-haloacetaldehyde is reacted with mono-thiooxamidic acid hydrazide under anhydrous conditions with or without the presence of a solvent. An example illustrates the second method, the mono-thio-oxamidic acid hydrazide being prepared by refluxing an aqueous mixture of ethyl mono-thio-oxamidate and hydrazine.
