Abstract
769,269. Mixing solids with fluids in flow. UNION CARBIDE & CARBON CORPORATION. April 13, 1955 [May 3, 1954; May 3, 1954], No. 10587/55. Class 86 Powdered material disposed in a container 12 is introduced into a bath of molten metal 64 by a carrier gas which is supplied at constant pressure to a mixing valve 20, and the mixing ratio is controlled by varying the pressure of gas introduced into the space above the powdered material in the container 12. The gas supplied in a pipe 22 is conducted through a branch pipe 26 to the mixing valve 20, and is fed through a pipe 30 to a pressure regulator 32 from which a pipe 38 leads the gas to the space above the powdered material. A gauge 34 determines the pressure at the regulator, and a gauge 40 measures the pressure in the container 12. Mixing valve 12 comprises a fixed hollow outer member 54, having radial ports 58, and a rotatable hollow inner member having radial ports 59 which may be brought into or out of registry with the ports 58. Gas enters the valve from pipe 26 through an ejector nozzle 51.
