Abstract

768,689. Intravenous injection apparatus. VINTRAUD, A., and SZMUKLER, C. Feb. 11, 1954 [March 14, 1953; April 7; 1953], No. 4016/54. Class 81(2) Drop-by-drop appliance for intravenous injection comprises a sleeve for containing a filter, two caps or plugs airtightly secured to the ends of the sleeve and apertured for fluid-tight connection of outlet and inlet tubes, the sleeve and caps or plugs being made of a synthetic elastomer. The sleeve 1 and the caps 2 are made of synthetic resin, e.g. polyvinyl chloride or a superpolyamide, the caps 2 being secured to the sleeve by high frequency electronic welding or by suitable adhesives. Inlet and outlet tubes 3, 4 pass through the caps 2 and are secured to them in a fluidtight manner, e.g. by high frequency electronic welding. The outlet tube 4 is provided with a hypodermic needle 5 which is kept sterile when not in use by a cover 11. The caps 2 are provided with bosses 7 for securing 'a filter element 6. In an alternative construction (Fig. 4), the caps 2 are provided with flanges which are secured to flanged collars 8 which are themselves electronically welded to the sleeve 1. In another construction (not shown), one cap is secured directly to the sleeve and the other is secured to a collar secured to the exterior of the sleeve. In a further construction (not shown), flanges on the caps are secured to flanges integral with the sleeve. In other embodiments, the caps 2, Fig. 10, are in the form of plugs which fit the interior of the sleeve 1 and are secured thereto by welding or by bands 16 on the exterior of the sleeve 1.
