Abstract

799,227. Liquid injection apparatus. WALTER, C. W. March 25, 1955 [March 29, 1954], No. 8868/55. Class 81 (2). Apparatus for administering therapeutic fluids comprises a length of flexible plastic tubing flattened and sealed at axially spaced zones to form a semi-rigid chamber, each sealing zone having a port therethrough, ports in two sealing zones providing a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet respectively to the chamber which is adapted to contain drip-flow and/or filter means. A filter and drip chamber 30 has flattened sealing zones 31, 32, 33 defining a filter chamber 30b and a drip chamber 30a. A drip tube 34 is fused within the central sealing zone 33 which is in a plane at right angles to the sealing zone 31 containing a fluid outlet tube 43 to which is connected a sheathed injection needle 44 or a needle adaptor (not shown). A sheathed coupling needle 42 is connected with the chamber 30 by a collecting tube 41 one end of which is fused in the inlet sealing zone 32 and to a nylon mesh filter sleeve 35 contained within the filter chamber 30b. In a modification, Fig. 4, a filter and drip chamber is formed between flattened end seals 22, 23 of a tube, a filter 24 and a drip orifice 25a being located in the chamber by rings 25, 26. The flattened end seals 22, 23 receive outlet and inlet tubes 11, 13 respectively, each of which is connected with an injection or coupling needle 12, 14 respectively. In use, the coupling needle 14 pierces a sealed outlet of a liquid container 1 which is formed from tubing flattened and sealed across the ends. The chambers and tubing are made of polyvinyl chloride resin base materials, polymers of trichlorofluoroethylene or polyethylene.
