Abstract

768,299. Refractive switches; snap action switches. SCHWABE, Inc., H. Feb. 11, 1955, No. 4176/55. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXIV] A clutch release control mounted on the swinging cutting beam of a clicking machine, i.e., a machine cutting leather &c., comprises an upwardly projecting handle 30 which is round in horizontal section and has a clutch control lever 32 projecting radially and movable into or out of the body of the handle, and an electric switch beneath the handle for operation by the resulting movement, of the lever. The switch is formed by a contact 48, Fig. 6, on an arm 42 fast on a spindle 44 which is turned to engage the contact 48 with a contact 46. The spindle 44 is fast with a rocker 50, Figs. 3, 7 engaged by a roller 56 biased by a spring 58 in a lever 52 pivoted at 54. A pin 94 on the lever 52 engages a groove in a rod 88 biased upwardly by a spring 60 and engaged at its upper end by a cylindrical plunger 76. The plunger is in turn engaged by the heel 36 of the control lever 32, which is pivoted at 34. Spring biased pivoted detents 62, 64 co-operate with the rocker 50 and the lever 52 to produce a snap action of the switch. On first moving the control lever 32 from the position shown in Fig. 3, the plunger 76 and rod 88 are moved downwardly, but the detent 64 co-operates with the rocker 50 to prevent the latter from turning. As the rod 88 continues to move downwards with the movement of the control lever 32, the lever 52 turns and the roller 56 is moved inwards against the bias of the spring 58. Ultimately, the lever 52 engages the detent 64 to release it from engagement with the rocker 50, which is then snapped over to its new position. On releasing the clutch control lever 32, the spring 60 moves the rod 88 &c. upwardly to perform a similar series of operations and restore the position shown in Fig. 3. The cylindrical plunger 76 is provided at one end with a flat headed crew 98, so that its effective length may be adjusted. The handle 30 is held on the top plate, 84 of the cutting beam by a nut 82, which may be released in order that the handle can be turned about its vertical axis and secured in the position best suited to its operator.
