Abstract

768,198. Suction-drying paper pulp &c. ESCHER WYSS GES. March 17,1955 [March 24, 1954], No. 7815/55. Class 96. [Also in Group XIII] Suction apparatus for drying webs 8 of paper pulp &c. comprises an endless elastic band 1 passed over two rollers 2 and supported on rollers 3 with cells 4 open towards the suction side, and plates 5 designed as suction heads 6 by which water accumulating in the cells is sucked off as the web 8 is passed over an endless sieve 7. Connections 9 are connected to a suction pump and throttling members therein allow the production of any desired vacuum in the sections 12 ... 17 of the suction surface. A strip 18 covers the cells 4 at the lateral edge of the band and projects beyond the normal width to form packing between the band and surfaces 20, the underside of the band 1 bearing against a surface 21 and channels 22, 23 being provided to permit water lubrication of the sliding surfaces, the water also forming a seal.
