Abstract

1393237 Felt-making apparatus ALBANY INTERNATIONAL CORP 7 Aug 1973 [25 Aug 1972] 37388/73 Heading D2A A suction head for use in felt manufacture comprises a suction pipe 22 for connection to a source of suction, at least one opening 26 in the pipe registering with a corresponding slot 43 in a base 32 of a cover 20 fixed, by bolts 41 or brackets (53), to the pipe 22, and wear strips 34-36 detachably fitted to the base, the undersurface portion 47 of each wear strip being slidable onto and interlocking with a cooperating upper surface 46 of the base, e.g. by a dovetail joint (as shown) or by a T-section joint (Figs. 6-8 not shown), the portion 47 of at least one wear strip being laterally offset with regard to the longitudinal centreline of the wear surface of that strip. The gap between the wear strips on the two sides of the slot 43 can thus be adjusted by reversing or interchanging the wear strips. Deckle fingers 37 may be slid into each end of the slot 43, and adjusted to the width of the felt 50 being manufactured, to form air seals. The base 32 may be made from polyethylene or a phenolic resin.
