Abstract

1315985 Dewatering webs VALMET OY 10 Dec 1970 [15 Dec 1969] 58614/70 Heading F4G A press for dewatering a web 5, e.g. produced in a papermaking machine, comprises press rolls 2, 6 and an endless felt 1 for carrying the web through the press nip, an enclosed space being provided at one side of the nip and the space being subject to air pressure regulation whereby it is maintained at a pressure such that the air pressure upstream of the nip is lower than that downstream, and the felt and the web being separated immediately after the press nip. Enclosed spaces may be provided at both sides of the nip, the upstream space being subject to a vacuum and the downstream space subject to pressure. Sealing rolls 3, 7 press against each other and the press rolls 2, 6 to form each space, end sealing plates being provided. The lower press roll 2 is a vacuum roll and the sealing rolls 3, 7 and the upper press roll 6 are cleaned by doctors 9. The web 5 may be carried to the press by a transfer felt. The roll 2 may be provided with a seal for closing perforations in the roll surface, Fig. 4 (not shown).
