768,075. Adhesive tape. BEIERSDORF & CO., AKT.-GES., P. March 23, 1955 [March 25, 1954], No. 8481/55. Class 140. The backing material of a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape is made of a fibrous material and is impregnated with a liquid composition comprising natural or synthetic rubber, e.g. a butadiene rubber, and a polyisocyanate (including a polythiocyanate) before coating with the pressure - sensitive adhesive. Fibrous materials specified are hemp paper, and acetate rayon and polyamide textile fabric. The liquid composition preferably does not contain solvents, i.e. the isocyanate is preferably a liquid. When using natural rubber, the rubber is preferably in a partially depolymerized form of pasty or liquid consistency. Isocyanates specified are hexamethylene and toluylene diisocyanate, pphenylene diisothiocyanate, and triphenyl methane tri-p-isocyanate. The impregnated fibrous support may be subjected to a heat treatment, e.g. to 120‹ C., before application of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. An intermediate coating comprising a polyestermodified urea-formaldehyde condensation product, optionally together with toluylene diisocyanate, may be employed. A back size coating comprising a polyester and toluylene diisocyanate may also be employed.
