Abstract
Foaming in sea-water evaporators is reduced by adding to the water the mono- or di-ester of a polyalkylene glycol and an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid containing less than twelve carbon atoms in the molecule and preferably free from alcoholic hydroxyl groups. The ester is of molecular weight preferably between 200 and 1000 if it is a polyethylene glycol and 1000 to 3000 if it is a polypropylene glycol. A mixture of the ester with the condensation product of naphthalene sulphonic acid and formaldehyde neutralized with caustic soda is also used in reducing foaming.ALSO:Foaming, in sea-water evaporators, is reduced by adding to the water the mono-or di-ester of a polyalkylene glycol and an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid containing less than twelve carbon atoms in the molecules and preferably free from alcoholic hydroxyl groups.
