Abstract
767,819. Shearing. HALL TELEPHONE ACCESSORIES, Ltd. June 4, 1954 [April 9, 1953], No. 9672/53. Class 83 (4). A non-cylindrical tube or shell is cut trans. versely by rotating it on a driven spindle, applying pressure to resiliently urge a cutting tool towards the tube or shell in a direction normal to the spindle, limiting movement of the tool towards the spindle by a cam mounted on the spindle corresponding in shape to the tube or shell and co-operating with a follower associated with the tool, and relieving the pressure whenever the shape of the tube or shell requires the tool to be moved against the pressure beyond a limited extent. The shell 2 is mounted on a mandrel 1 secured on the driven spindle 3 and is held by a clamp 14 pressing the base of the shell against the spring- loaded end of the mandrel 1. A pneumaticallyactuated piston 9 lifts the table 11 carrying the cutting disc 13 into the cutting position in which the disc-shaped cam follower 19 engages the cam 20. The pressure is relieved when necessary by a valve controlled by a cam device 4 rotated with the spindle 3 and designed in accordance with the shape of the tube or shell.
