Abstract

<PICT:0767605/IV(b)/1> In a process for hydroforming hydrocarbons in contact with finely-divided hydroforming catalyst particles using the fluidized solids technique, a stream of spent catalyst particles is continuously withdrawn from the reaction zone and the particles are regenerated by burning off the carbonaceous deposits, the regenerated catalyst is stripped with air, and then purged with a small quantity of nitrogen or flue gas scrubbed free of oxygen and carbon oxides and finally recycles to the reaction zone. In a preferred embodiment, a reactor vessel 10 is charged with a hydroforming catalyst which is maintained as a dense fluidized bed 11 by the passage of a hydrogen rich gas through line 12 and plate 13, and by vaporized hydrocarbons introduced through line 14 and ring 51. Return products are taken overhead from vessel 10 after passing a cyclone separator 16. The catalyst is withdrawn through conduit 18 and standpipe 23 and line 26 in which it is picked up by a stream of air supplied through line 27 and then passes through riser 28 and distributer grid 29 into regenerator 30. A further supply of air is supplied through inlet line 31. The regenerated catalyst may be stripped in a well member 36, the upper end of which extends above the dense bed level L after which it passes into conduit 41 in which it is purged with nitrogen. The purged catalyst may then be returned directly to the reactor 10 or it may be given an additional treatment with hydrogen. The catalyst may be molybdenum oxide, chromium oxide or tungsten oxide upon a carrier such as activated alumina or zinc aluminate spinel. Minor amounts of silica, calcium oxide, ceria, or potassia may also be added. Specifications 706,938, 723,491 and 730,223 are referred to.ALSO:In a process for hydroforming hydrocarbons in contact with finely divided hydroforming catalyst particles using the fluidized solids technique, a stream of spent catalyst particles is continuously withdrawn <PICT:0767605/III/1> from the reaction zone and the particles are regenerated by burning off the carbonaceous deposits, the regenerated catalyst is stripped with air, and then purged with a small quantity of nitrogen or flue gas scrubbed free of oxygen and carbon oxides and finally recycled to the reaction zone.
