Abstract
767,519. Discharge lamps. WESTFALISCHE METALL-INDUSTRIE GES. March 4, 1954 [March 6, 1953; March 9, 1953; April 24, 1953], No. 6403/54. Class 39(1). [Also in Groups XI and XL(b)] An optical signal emitter has a pair of electrodes forming a spark-gap in a gas-filled chamber at the focal point of a parabolic reflector within or forming part of the chamber, the reflector being formed of insulating material through which the electrodes pass and in which they are mounted, and that part of the chamber in front of the reflector being transparent. The emitter forms a sparklamp emitting short-pulses of light for signalling between road vehicles. In one form the reflector 3, Fig. 1, is a one micron silver coating on an insulating block 1 which, together with the window 4, forms the gas-filled chamber. The electrodes 2 pass through the block to external terminals 5. The coating may alternatively be on the outside of the insulating block. In another form, the reflector block 1 carrying the electrodes 2 is sealed within a glass envelope 8, Fig. 2, which is provided with a cap 10, and may be fitted into the housing 16 closed by a glass window 12. A condenser 15 may be incorporated in the housing as shown or in the cap or in the envelope.
